What better way to promote AIDS Awareness then by throwing a party— so that’s what we’re doing, with help from some good friends we’re throwing a hip-hop show at The Standard Nightclub in Langley on May 23rd.

Our friends at Shady Minx Models, Mayhem and Clothing have been looking to collaborate with the 2008 AIDS Awareness Custom Chopper Contest and offered to throw in a fashion show complete with club-wear and lingerie. With these gorgeous girls showing off their latest designs what better way to promote safe sex then by showing people that it’s sexy.

We have Universal Recording Artist and Vancity’s Underground R&B King B. Diamond headlining this all-local event.

B. Diamond was one of the first people to jump on board. When he told us he wanted to headline we were definitely excited. B and Vancouver Chopper have a mutual friend who had been telling me for months how awesome he was and when I checked out his MySpace page I was definitely impressed.

But B wasn’t the only artist to sign up for the show. Kris Monico and The Titans were quick to jump on board too.

My boss had actually been fortunate enough to catch Kris at a concert in Vancouver and when I told him Kris was signed on he was definitely happy to hear he was performing at our party. Kris is the self-proclaimed “Sinatra of Rap” and has been an underground fan-favorite in Greater Vancouver for years.

To round the party off it was Monico who nominated the rap collective T.I.T.A.N.S. to join him and B on stage. T.I.T.A.N.S. have been in the rap game for almost ten years now representing Vancouver in the underground scene. The crew is made up of a diverse group of rappers with different cultural and geographic backgrounds. Hailing from all over Canada this collective delivers inspirational lyrics over the funkiest of beats.

With three of the best hip-hop outfits set to take the stage we are ready to roll and May 23rd will be an epic night with a great message for all.

The recent sunny weather spells can only mean one thing— golf season is almost here for British Columbia. We at Vancouver Chopper love to golf, but this year we’re so focused on our work with the 2008 AIDS Awareness Custom Chopper Tour that we would like to bring our prize motorcycles to the local tournaments instead of our golf clubs.

It’s not normal practice to ride our badass choppers onto a golf course, but we have done it before and man is it fun, so we’d love to do it again. Not just for us, the riders, but for the golfers too. As everyone knows where we go our chopper girls go and what could be better than approaching the hole to line up your shot and having one of our chopper girls greet you at the tees? Of course there are also the custom choppers decorating the course, which can make for a brief but fun distraction from a sometimes very intense game.

We have had a few invites to courses all over BC but we are always looking for more. We’re also spreading the word about our great cause and we need to expand past trade shows and drinking establishments. I’m not saying that golfers are the highest-at-risk crowd but they certainly can pitch in and help, I’ve seen them do it in the past and man they are good people. Not to mention the spread of this disease can touch any demographic at any time. Every two hours in Canada someone contracts HIV. The people who are contracting this disease all have parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, girlfriends, boyfriends and friends who hold them close to their hearts. I’d hate to come across a golfer who has lost someone they love to AIDS this season but as is the case everywhere I go, I know I will.

If you or someone you know are participating in a golf tournament this summer we would love to bring our big-hearted choppers to participate. We guarantee they will have fun with us and we won’t talk during their back swing.

On the Road With AIDS Awareness: Stories From The Chopper Charity Tour

When we did the 2007 Chopper Raffle we decided it would be best to tour the motorcycle everywhere we could. Among others, we attended the West Coast Women’s Show, the Snowbird RV Show and the 2007 Snow Expo— not your typical biker crowds. If there was a trade show we were there and we had a lot of fun going.

Towards the end of the raffle we started hitting a lot of bars, pubs and nightclubs. We figured hey, if these kind folks are willing to let us ride our charity chopper through their front door, hell yeah— we’ll take them up on that.

Of course this was also a blast.

But there is one place we’ve been knocking away and no matter how much we work on it and how many Facebook groups, MySpace pages and blogsites we have started it just hasn’t yield the results we wanted and that’s the internet.

When we go to the bars or events, we can show off our bikes, talk to folks and get the girls to help people fill out their entries. On the web this isn’t as easy to do.

So after a bit of trial-and-error and having read a book or two about online marketing strategies we decided the best way to approach the web is by showing people who we are and what we are doing out in the community. I’m shooting video right now for Youtube and we are going to continue our dialogue with the Internet community through blogging and online social groups. We are also focused on building our own online community centered on a great charitable cause, badass choppers and gorgeous girls.

As a bonus I’m going to be putting this, my tales from the tour, online from now on so that people know who’s supporting our causes and winning our choppers and where you kind find us next out in your community.

I’m hoping that we can continue to “Spread The Word” about the 2008 AIDS Awareness Custom Chopper Contest online and I’m sure that like all of our other endeavors we are also bound to have a little fun.
